What is mean by Online UPS?
Online term refers to the condition when converter is in operation when power in the line is present. Offline mode refers to a condition when converter operation start after the main line is off or not available. Therefore, online UPS is a stage which is introduced between the load and mains.
What is online and offline UPS?
Offline UPS’s are the Simplest and Least Expensive. When Mains is Present, it is Routed Straight through the UPS Bypassing the Inverter to the Output. Online UPS’s take the Incoming AC mains Supply and Convert it to DC which feeds the Battery and the Load via the Inverter.
What is the difference between online ups and offline UPS?
Off line UPS passes the AC Mains Supply directly to the output load if the AC Mains Supply is present.Only in the case of power failure, it switches to inverter within few miliseconds to give power to load until mains supply returns.
On the other hand On Line UPS always charges battery from incoming AC mains supply and supplies power to load via the inverter.Even if the mains supply fails, there is no interruption to the output load at all. Generally On Line UPS unlike off line UPS are expensive and inefficient as Inverter is continuously in operation. However it provides greater quality of power as compared to offline UPS.
How does battery backup work?
